First impressions of the new Shipwrecked

It’s hard to believe that the Shipwrecked TV show has been away from our screens since way back in 2012. But the Channel Four reality show has come back and it looks to give its rival show, Love Island, a real run for its money.

The Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands 2019 programme came on our screens at the end of January, and there’s been plenty of entertaining moments at the contestants have aimed to pick up the £50,000 cash prize.

There’s been a constant parade of new people who seem to be outdoing each other in their outrageous behaviour. From the likes of Beth simulating a very risqué erotic act on herself to Brad proudly declaring that he’s a social media influencer, it seems as though the current batch of Shipwrecked stars seem to be trying to make themselves as unlikable as possible.

Whilst such antics are hardly likely to meet the approval of more mature viewing audiences, for the rest of us, it has meant that Shipwrecked is essential viewing. So here’s a look at some of the must-see moments from the 2019 edition of Shipwrecked.

The battle between Precious and Liv

Reality TV shows always work best when the competitors erupt into massive arguments. This certainly happened when Precious was on the receiving end of a drink being thrown in his face by the fiery Liv. Despite the Northern Irish DJ having only been on the island for a handful of hours, his outspoken remarks quickly got the better of Liv and she quickly put him in his place.

As a result Precious ran off with his tail between his legs to Shark Island, whilst Liv could concentrate on much more worthwhile pursuits such as soiling herself on live TV. But we get the feeling that we haven’t seen the last of Precious’ outrageous comments just yet.

Chris and Sean’s fledgling romance?

Put a bunch of good looking young people with no inhibitions on a tropical island, and there’s a good chance that romance will start brewing sooner or later. And one of this Shipwrecked season’s most heartwarming moments has been hinted as it looks like Sean and Chris are kissing in the tease that begins each episode.

Chris was one of the original islanders, and he has already given fans the tantalising rumour that he had a romance on Shipwrecked but hasn’t said who the lucky person is just yet. Sean was only just introduced to the island, and he revealed that he hadn’t told his dad that he was gay before coming on the Channel 4 reality show. And with the fact that both Sean and Chris have admitted that they have a liking for each other, it seems that romance could be on the cards.

Beth’s outrageous erotic antics

Each reality show needs one individual who is willing to go beyond the boundaries of good taste. And that certainly happened when Beth turned up on the Shipwrecked island. The professional cam girl wasted no time in performing a sex act on herself during a game of truth and dare, and there seems to be no stopping Beth from becoming one of Shipwrecked most controversial characters.

Whilst the other contestants were being fairly lame by daring each other to do things like the worm dance, Beth showed no such inhibitions. Thankfully the glamour model went back on her promise to do the dare completely naked, but with plenty of foul-mouthed writhing around, it seems as though Beth is willing to do anything to get attention.

Harry getting evicted

Whilst there is little denying Harry’s good looks, most viewers would have been very pleased to see the back of this massively smug contestant. Harry was booted out after he lost an endurance challenge to Team Shark’s Tom Wotton, and it gave Harry chance to show the world what a nasty character he was.

By refusing to shake Tom’s hand after failing at the challenge, Harry quickly received a huge amount of abuse on social media. Whilst such pathetic actions will have got Harry some short-lived fame, the overwhelming impression is that Harry is just way to arrogant even for reality TV. But as is so often the case, we get the horrible feeling that we might not have seen the last of Harry from our screens.

Sara and Josh make early exits

It’s always interesting to see which contestants are able to stand the heat of reality TV. And unsurprisingly, we have already seen a couple of islanders already making a hasty exist from Shipwrecked. First we got to see Josh Christie announced his heartbreaking departure from the show as a result of hearing that his grandfather had been admitted to hospital.

But then this was swiftly followed up by Sara Murphy announced her shock exit. Whilst Josh had a pretty good reason for leaving the show, Sara initially stated that it was ‘personal reasons’ behind her decision. However, we have since learned that Sara left the show because she was involved in a romantic relationship back home and didn’t want to let the steamy goings-on affect her partner. Although this is a fair reason, it didn’t exactly make for gripping television.

Daisy’s relentless ambition

It’s always tempting to think ahead about who could win contests like Shipwrecked. Whilst there are plenty of likely candidates, we think that Daisy could have what it takes to get the £50,000 cash prize.

Not only did Daisy make a massive impression when she turned up on the island wearing little more than a leopard print bikini, but the 22-year old has shown that she knows how to play her contestants and the viewers too. From her outrageous flirting with Harry to updating her Instagram profile with all manner of scandalous pictures, it seems as though Daisy will do just about anything to win this year’s contest. But with plenty more challenges yet to go, it’s too soon to see how things will pan out.
